What's new

season 2016-2017

Monday - April 3rd, 2017

I am very happy to say that we had a very successful finals weekend, all went smoothly and there were some great games of bowls.

Saturday morning started with The Pairs and The triples playing at the same time. We saw some great bowls from all the teams. The final results were: in The Pairs the Atherley pair of Liz Russell and Eileen Askell won 20-12, with runners up Chris Hall and Yvonne Bott. In The Triples J. Watts, M, Moffat and K. Patrick on their home green won 26-6 against Y. Grant, M.Morgan and S. Stone.

On Saturday afternoon, we played our very first year of The Mixed Fours. We were very pleased with the number of entries we had. The match between Chawton Park and Loddon Vale was a fantastic game, with the lead changing all the way through. The victors in the end were Loddon Vale with a score of 22-17. Well done to Chawton Park for such a good game.

Sunday morning we had The Singles, and what a great game that was. Nicole Rogers won with the result of 21-19. Liz Russell played a brilliant game making the score 19-19, but Nicole had a great final end and managed to claim the title .

The Fours also played in the morning and again we saw there some excellent bowling. The ladies from Atherley won 24-10. Loddon Vale played some very good bowls and were very worthy runners up.

I think everyone enjoyed the finals weekend, and I would like to give a big thank you to Julie who was our umpire for the weekend and Mandy who marked The Singles for us. Also - thank you to everyone that helped and to all the players, without you we wouldn't have all this in the first place.

Good luck to you all in the summer, and I look forward to seeing you all next year and doing it all again.

***ATHERLEY TROPHY - Hampshire vs. Sussex November 26th, 2016***

Hampshire had a very successful day in the first game of the Atherley Trophy, beating Sussex 107 to 93. Hampshire took the lead early until the short mats came out and Sussex caught up to within 4, but Hampshire always kept the lead and had a strong finish. The day was finished with a friendly meal and a chat. Thank you to Jenny and Fay and everyone else who helped make this day a success . And obviously, big thanks to the players for a brilliant game!

***Patrons match @ Chawton Park - Christmas Game November, 15th 2016***

Another good afternoon of bowls at Chawton Park today. This was written as a Christmas game with Jenny telling me we could dress in Xmas clothes. Unfortunately I did not realise that I had to wear whites so I was the only one out of uniform . Most people didn't mind and laughed it off.

Chawton Park's many talented players played extremely well, beating the Patrons by quite a few. The meet was concluded by a lovely Turkey dinner. Many thanks to the host team for a great game and the organization.
